1.0 Examples of Elements/Metals
	A collection of different elemental materials to display to the class.

 

1.1 Exploding Balloons
Two balloons, one filled with hydrogen and the other with helium are ignited with a lit splint, with different results.

 

1.2 Definitions of Matter I (Copper vs Copper sulfate)
	This demo illustrates two concepts: the difference between an element and a chemical compound as well as the difference between heterogeneous and homogeneous mixtures (solutions).

 

1.2A Definitions of Matter II (Iron filings and sugar)
The separation of iron filings from sugar will demonstrate a heterogeneous mixture.

 

1.3 Radioactivity of (Antique) Household Items
	A Geiger counter is used to detect radiation from certain objects.

 

1.4 Calcium Metal Reactivity with Water
A piece of granular calcium metal is added to water. After a few moments a vigorous reaction takes place producing hydrogen gas and calcium hydroxide.
